Did you know? It is estimated that over 40% of all English words have French origin?
The French language
English borrows many words from the French language. French was indeed the language of the court and the elites, after the Norman conquest of England, in 1066. English has been constantly influenced by French from that time to the present day. According to the linguist Henriette Walter, words of French origin represent 2/3 of the current English vocabulary.
